Should the San Jose Mercury News really be called the Murky News? |
| The San Jose Mercury News continues to claim that it is a great newspaper, winning all sorts of awards at journalism. But in fact it is a very politically liberal newspaper that distorts the truth, runs only stories that align with a certain viewpoint, and ignores stories that it does not like. In effect, it is a propaganda rag for left-wing liberal ideas. | |
Consider the following: |
|
- ALL of its columnists continuously take the left-wing liberal position on virtually every issue. They have NO conservative columnists.
- The editorial page contains the Mercury News opinions on a daily basis. These are virtually 100% left-wing liberal opinions on every topic from taxes to gay marriage to any other lame-brain emotional left wing opinion, such as the city banning plastic grocery bags.
- They purposely omit any coverage to events like the Tea Party. Even though 1,000 people rallied in downtown San Jose for each of the past 2 years, the Mercury News never mentioned it beforehand, and never had a word of coverage afterward. Yet just a few days later, an "occupy" group of about 25 people gathered on a corner in a different city stating the 1% were not paying their share of taxes and the Mercury News of course covered them!
- On some topics, such as gay marriage, their articles are virtually 100% in favor of gay marriage. They rarely, if ever, interview anyone or quote anyone in opposition to gay marriage (even though over 50% of Californians are against gay marriage...). They just can't seem to find anyone to quote against gay marriage. So much for journalism!
- Their distribution continues to dwindle. Every once in awhile, they ask readers for their input on what they can do to improve circulation and readership. When many people dare to write into them to point out how biased their reporting is (and how many of their friends have stopped reading because of that), they scoff at the very idea that they are biased! Their printed responses were an insult to those of us who gave them our opinion. (Hint: Don't ask for people's opinions if you don't want to hear them...)
- They choose what stories to print on their front page, and what stories to bury. Stories that support their left-wing agenda get front page news. Bashing of conservatives gets front page news. But anything that shows liberals in a bad light, or does not support their views gets buried and run for a single day only (never to be discussed again).
